Industry leading companies focus on differentiating themselves in surprisingly simple ways. FedEx’ focus on reliability, Nike’s focus on inspiration and GE’s focus on problem solving are great examples. DABF recently hosted a roundtable about the challenges of building strategic differentiation in the US. This discussion delved into how the most successful brands have managed to create value, and get access to operational tools for developing a strong and clear positioning strategy in order to adapt your own company.

PR in the US
The US is not only the country with the world's most valuable brands, but it is also the leading PR arena in the world. The market offers many opportunities for Danish firms, but you cannot simply transfer your Danish communitcation strategy and expect to get noticed. In order to generate buzz, you need to create a movement. On August 28, the importance of PR for success in the US was discussed at DABF's seminar "PR in the US: create a movement by joining the public debate."

Act Now: Growing US Market for Energy Efficient Buildings
The US market for energy efficient buildings has lagged Europe for decades. But a greener generation and a substantial rise in residential green construction are changing things. In 2013, green homes are expected to comprise 22-25% of the market. By 2016, it is estimated be 29-38% - an $89-$116 billion opportunity. And green energy within commercial and institutional construction is forecasted to account for 55% of the market within coming years. Danish companies with superior technology are well advised to act now. Check out the presentations from this session - they examined the many levels at which decisions are made: homeowner, condominium (appr. a dozen decision makers), city level and state level.

Practical HR Issues
There are many legal and practical considerations when staffing your company in the US - whether you are sending Danes 'over there' or hiring Americans. What do you need to know about the complicated US Visa process? How do US hiring and firing standards differ from the Danish ones? And what about expat remuneration and taxes? These questions were discussed at DABF's 'Practical HR Issues' seminar hosted by Deloitte with Experts from both Martensen Wright and Deloitte sharing their knowledge and experience.
