The US back on the agenda in 2010!
Dear Members,
Welcome to this last newsletter of 2009. We have decided to jump on the sustainable trend and have ceased our printed newsletter and we are pleased to introduce our new electronic format which also allows us to be more flexible both in terms of frequency and content.
First of all I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members of the network during the fall of 2009:
Ticra Graintec Elmer, Lund Sandager Fluent Communication Leo Pharma
We look forward to be working with you as part of our active and dynamic network and to meet you at our events and seminars going forward. Further information about new members on our member list.
The US economy – positive signs? In the last newsletter I put focus on some increasingly positive signals in the US economy and at a seminar we hosted in November we challenged some experts with a rhetoric question whether there would be light at the end of the tunnel in 2010.
After some insightful presentations and lively debate during our meeting in November on the state of the US economy, it is uplifting to note that many indicators and arguments point in the right direction. Also the latest Q3 GDP growth figure at 3,5% points in this direction and the estimate for 2010 given by Carsten Valgren, Benderly Economics is 4%. However, being an estimate only the question is how we can use this and other indications in our business decisions. Well, for us here at Danish-American Business Forum and for our members with all levels of interests and activities in the US market this can inspire to renewed optimism and acceleration of planned actions with US focus.
We will continue to monitor the development of the economic situation and outlook in our events during 2010.
Activities in 2010 We have many activities planned for 2010 where we will put focus on some of the identified needs and preferred topics during our rounds of discussions with our members.
In February we put focus on how to overcome cultural differences when doing business in the US. Read more
We will continue with our roundtable discussions with relevant ministers and the first will be Minister of Taxation, Kristian Jensen, March 15.
Our business Conference in relation to our Annual Meeting April 21 will be themed ‘USA back on the Agenda’ with key focus on successful sectors and businesses in the US. More details to follow.
In May we will have a seminar, which focuses on all relevant aspects to consider before starting up a business in the US.
Also please mark your calendar already now as we have secured the Director of Invest in America in Washington DC, Aaron S. Brickman to put focus on investment climate and incentives for Danish companies June 7.
We have a lot of other exciting activities in the pipeline and will, as usual, inform you in due course prior to the events and we look forward to welcome you and your colleagues.
Sharing experience in focused groups Based on member input and requests we will start our first working group themed ‘Sales, Distribution and Establishment of High-tech products/solutions’ in the beginning of the new year. The value of the concept is primarily direct sparring with fellow members within specific areas of common interest i.e. own vs. third-party distributors, sales force management/selection etc. If you would like to know more please send me an email.
Lastly we are in the process of restructuring our website in order to optimize it for searching and sharing knowledge among members. We expect it to be fully upgraded with the new features during the first quarter of 2010.
The team at Danish-American Business Forum would like to thank you for a positive network participation in 2009 and we look forward to seeing you and working with you at our meetings and seminars next year.
In the meantime we would like to wish you and your families a peaceful holiday season and a prosperous 2010.
Sincerely,
Einar Dyrhauge
